Racism In Advertisement
This is an advertisement by Intel from 2007.
It shows the "boss" as a white man while
he clearly has only black employees "bowing"
to the boss. This is a clear digression into the
past where whites were slave owners. This
advertisement suggests a theme of white
power and black inferiority.

Great, Barbie is going multicultural, its about time! But was it really necessary to use a stereotypical "ghetto/black" name. Because no black individuals have a name like Kaylee, right?! Because of this little girls playing with this doll will begin to associate black individuals with names such as the one of this Barbie. Maybe not all, but most.
This is from 2010, where Vaseline
is promoting a cream that "whitens"
ones skin. As if being "black" or dark
skinned is not a favorable trait or image.
This advertisement sends the message
that white is better than dark skin and it
is what people should strive for to look
better.

In 2006, Sony came out with a commercial to
promote their new white PSP. With catch
phrases like "white is taking over" and a clear
depiction of a white character fighting a black women
and the white women is far more in control and
dominant. This is an obvious example of how
racism has crept into our pop culture and still
considered okay. Even though the commercial and
advertisements were banned, this pitch made it through many people with no qualms.

Beyonce is commonly seen as a face for L'Oreal. However over the course of many different covers for their products they have been slowly whitening Beyonce's skin through digital "photoshoping". This shows how the industry believes that a whiter face on the cover of their product will drive the consumption of their product up instead of a person with a darker skin color. This is something that has not really been brought to the general public's attention because it is subtle racism. If Beyonce was the face of the product and then they replaced her with a white woman, everyone would notice and it would gain more attention. But because this whitening of the same woman's skin over time is a more subtle example not as many people will realize what actually is going on.
